Professor Robert Greenberg
Dean of Arts
STEAM Power: Putting the Arts into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Technology leaders have repeatedly praised the skill sets developed when studying for an Arts degree and are increasingly choosing to hire Arts graduates. Notably, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said: “Technology alone is not enough. It’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that makes our hearts sing.”
The Dean of Arts, Professor Robert Greenberg, explores this trend focusing on the shining role our Film, Television and Media Studies disciplinary areas play internationally as New Zealand’s leading research centre in this field. He will highlight the contribution alumni, students and staff such as award-winning filmmaker and 2014 Young Distinguished Alumni Award winner Roseanne Liang make to this industry.
Robert Greenberg is the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Auckland. He received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1991, and has held academic and visiting appointments at Georgetown, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Yale, and Hunter College. In 2010 he received the William Clyde DeVane medal for excellence in teaching and scholarship from Yale University.
New Zealand Consul General, Los Angeles
New Zealand Consul-General Leon Grice will talk about the work his agency is doing to promote New Zealand Inc, including our thriving film and TV industry. Leon’s diverse business career has been in public affairs and marketing including establishing an entrepreneurial business that created a number of start-ups.
Before joining the consulate in 2012 he was responsible for the leverage and legacy programme delivered for Rugby World Cup 2011.
